These reflections are written by Aileen Ross, an elder of Blairdaff & Chapel of Garioch Church and former organist at Chapel of Garioch Church.
I have been going on retreat for more than 20 years and have also had training in Ignatian spirituality where the emphasis is on reading the Bible prayerfully, opening oneself to the Spirit of God, waiting on God unhurriedly and letting God speak to the heart. I have found that the Bible has come alive to me and the hope is that it will inspire others, too, to find God speaking to them where they are, meeting God in the midst of life, becoming more conscious of God’s presence within wherever they are and whatever they are experiencing. If each of us allows God to transform us, then I believe that through us society will be changed and the world. But it must begin with each individual.
I started writing these reflections in 2002 as a way of helping the congregation to see the relevance of the Bible for their lives today and introducing them to a new way of reading the Bible. My hope is that people will come to develop a deeper and more intimate relationship with God through reading the Bible prayerfully and bringing God more and more into their everyday lives.
God, I believe, wants to transform us so that each of us becomes the person God wants us to be, fully human, like Jesus, and that will only take place if we allow God to speak to us in the deepest place of our heart and if we take God with us into our daily lives. And it will result in our building the Kingdom of God here on earth which is God’s desire for us.
